- GHH secures a Clean and Sober House in Hilo with beds for up to eight (8) unrelated males in need of re-entry/recovery housing, now known as the Pu'uhonua Wellness Center - GHH receives Contingency Funds from County Council Members to begin a pilot project for the In-Reach and Reintegration (IRR) program in Kailua-Kona. The project assists offenders charged with non-violent offenses, suffer from mental illness, and are incarcerated or at risk of incarceration at the Hawai'i Community Correctional Center (HCCC). - 6th Annual Going Home Consortium Benefit Fundraiser (Honorees: Mitch Roth, Hawai'i County Prosecuting Attorney, and Barry Taniguchi, Owner of KTA Superstores) |

- GHH receives a State Grant-in-Aid award to support the In-Reach and Reintegration (IRR) program in Kailua-Kona. - GHH holds our 1st Annual Returning Home Conference held at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo, Hale 'olelo. The conference focused on the journey from incarceration to community and included Hawai'i Island, Kaua'i, Mau'i, and O'ahu representatives working with justice-involved individuals. - GHH receives a three-year Federal Second Chance Act award to provide pre- and post-release supportive services for justice-involved individuals, including peer mentoring support and case management services. - 7th Annual Going Home Consortium Benefit Fundraiser (Honorees: Judge Ronald Ibarra, and Pastor Charlie Kama) |

- GHH hosts two Community Forums on Substance Use and Mental Health in Hilo and Kailua-Kona - 8th Annual GH Consortium Benefit Fundraiser (Honorees: Dr. Marilyn Brown (UHH) and Donna Madrid (HCC). Our theme this year was "Women & Education.") |

-GHH secures a lease in Kailua-Kona to provide reentry and recovery housing in West Hawai'i. This program is located on Alahou Street and is a 3-building apartment complex. -GHH receives CARES Act funding to operate a short-term reentry and recovery housing program at the Hilo Hotel located in downtown Hilo (September 2020 - December 2020). This program had 10 bed spaces and was meant to quickly link men getting released from Hawai'i Community Correctional Center (HCCC) and other Hawai'i jail and prison facilities with access to long-term services and programs. |

-GHH secures a lease for a women's reentry and recovery housing program, located in East Hawai'i. This program has 8 bed spaces for justice-involved women. -GHH secures a lease for a semi-independent men's reentry and recovery housing program, located in East Hawai'i. This program has 4 bed spaces for justice-involved men who have remained compliant with their judicial requirements and the GHH reentry and recovery housing program rules. This housing is intended for justice-involved men who are ready to take the next step towards securing independent housing. The program continues case management services. |
2022 |
-January/February 2022: Going Home contracts professional consultant, Liam Chinn, Public Safety and Police Reform Consultant who facilitates the January 2022 and February 2022 GH Consortium Meetings to lead members in the creation of a collaborative framework. From these sessions, the GH Consortium developed a collaborative vision and a strategic plan to lead consortium efforts and drive committee action plans and goals. -March 20 & 21, 2022: The Hui Hoʻiwai Reentry Summit is held in Honolulu and virtually via Zoom. GHH President & CEO, Les Estrella, was a featured speaker on day 1 of the summit. Hui Hoʻiwai is an informal working group of advocacy and reentry organizations striving to shine the light on the power within our communities and fighting to end the dehumanization of incarcerated people. The organizations that comprise Hui Hoʻiwai push for a paradigm shift where the default is not to put people in cages for violations or offenses. The reentry summit is an opportunity to build connections and foster vital discussion of these issues, see presentations on evidence-based practices, and learn from speakers with direct and lived experience about what works to enhance successful reentry. -April 2022: Second Chance Month - GHH receives a County of Hawai'i Proclamation from Mayor Mitch Roth that commends the collaborative efforts of the GH Consortium and observes April as Second Chance Month. |
